Dear to whom it may or may not concern …
On a more serious note … while it was reported today in the Jordan Times, today, that investments in Jordan during the first quarter of this year totalled JD 969.4 million, it was reported in Al Hayat newspaper, also today, that Jordan’s Gross Domestic Product has dropped by 2.0% in 2006. According to the CIA book of facts, 72.2% of Jordan’s GDP is public debt! If our GDP in 2006 was $28.89 billion, out of which 72.2% is public debt … I’m not good at math, but I can tell it’s NOT looking good …
A country’s GDP is a way of measuring the standard of living in that country. So it’s only fair to say that the standard of living in Jordan has dropped as well, which doesn’t come as a surprise.
The reasons for this decline are, of course, attributed to:
- Increased Inflation Rates: Inflation in Jordan has increased from 3.5% in 2005 to 6.3% in 2006!
- Increasing fuel prices which resulted in the price hike of other capital goods.
- Unprecedented increase in prices of poultry, vegetables.
- Most importantly, the depreciation of the US dollar (the Jordanian Dinar is pegged to the US dollar).
and that’s something for us to ponder upon …

Yo man!!Ballashet eddareb 3lay
Ensa it is all bullshit, all of these investments will employ non-jordanians just like the QIZ elli garafoona feeha!!It added nothing, they don’t pay taxes, they just use some chinese girls to make some nike garments and they ship it to the US and make money and we jordanian smell nothing but sewage!!
And I will not be surprised if all of this were lies, we are used to stuff like this, they are just polishing the picture to make themselves look good, just like companies in trouble;before they sell the company they say that the profits are high and everything is great(ENRON as examlple)..
Dude, jordan is full of corrupts that will leave as soon as something bad happens!!
Not at all Mohanned, would I dare adarib 3ala “ghrab el bain”? lol
ok just to clear up a few things …..
since our major trade partners are Iraq and USA (43.3% in exports) the depreciation of the dollar hasn’t effected it us so much at the time being, unlike europe for instance.
our public debt was reduced from 104% (i think if not more ) in 2002 to the current number. so that is actually a good indicator.
the inflation rate is very dubious in the last report of DoS, and it is a reflection of all the reason u said below (inflation rate is measured as a percent increase of basic commodities)
So technically through the numbers the economy is doing well, in actuality its more grim
bambam: Thanks for the clarification. Although the facts and figures are proving otherwise, I really hope what you’re saying is true. Maybe the report only highlighted the negative points and failed to mention the positive ones, but still, the Jordanian man in the street is not so close to comfort. But let’s keep our fingers crossed
here are my 0.02$
apart from figures and numbers, and inflation and general dept, and politics and economy, er7am elli gal: Eshtaddee azma tanfarijee! maybe zay ma gal akhoy mohannad that corrupts will flee the ground on first red light, but you know what? a7san, bensaffee el balad menhom w benballesh men el sefer!

correction: E7NA el ordonieh are laaaaazzzyyy
Mariam:
Bas look it, we are not lazy, maybe 75% of us are lazy but that is the case everywhere, the problem is that we kill innovation and change, the old mentality of the old guard are holding us back, my whole study is about change and innovation and we are faaaaaar from reaching the point where mal3een el walden flee the country unless we fall under occupation which is 100 times better than this status que that we are stuck in. The government treat us like sheep or small kids that don’t know what is good for them..Sadly it is true
Hala yakhti
O zay ma besameeni who-sane”Ghrab El ben”
Mariam: I don’t mind those who flee the country when they’re caught, at least we wouldn’t have to worry about them again … but the farce is with those who are corrupt and are still assuming their duties!! And in the case of some ministers they’d simply blame it on the previous ministry and that say they’ve tried their best!
… hmmmm … how did this turn political? It’s gotta be Mohanned, this guy loves politics!
Mohanned, I totally agree regarding the old guard, they should be rooted out and the government should actually cut their manhoods, so they won’t beget more of that disgusting offspring!
Listen Mohanned, mosh tinsana bokra bas tseer some significant corrupt … sorry I mean a significant politician
