Good to have you back writing, even if it is under such tragically topical auspices. That kidnapping broke my mommy-heart, and after all those other heart-wrenching stories, I am ready for some Chicken Soup for a Mother's Soul.

wallah ahlen o sahlen :)

it is REALLY sad. when my mom was here begining of Dec she told me about another infant abduction story, it was solved when the husband of the abductee reported his wife who had been pretending to be pregnant for 9 months and one day came back in the afternoon after she allegedly gave birth!

Happy new year my friend.

I am surprised with the sentence, 6 months for kidnapping or dumping a child? This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard.

The rule is simple: If you take a life away then your life is to be taken.

Well..
You talked about kidnappers but what about the (so-called) parents who throw their kids away, some with the clear intention and wish for these babies to die.
A problem isn't it? A huge one I believe.
We got stuck... what should we do? abviously returned the babies to their undervingly called parents would be the worst thing to do. they lost their maternal rights the minutes they thought of throwing the baby away. But this is what happens. And do you think they get checked later on to see if they care for the baby or not? I don't think so.. There is no social services that do home checks in Jordan, as I know.
So... why not giving the baby to couples who can't have kids. Not adoption, foster parents, host parents whatchamacallit parents. I know "adoption" is a sensitive word. But I'm sure some couples who were not blessed with children of their own would treat the baby 100 times better than his biological "parents".
So the real issue here is not why these babies get dumped.. It is about what's gonna happened to them later on... which for the time being is nothing but being with unthankful parents with the label of "eben/bent haram"...
So sad

Welcome back homie!
I don't know, but sometimes I feel that humans are evil by nature(Remember qabeel and habeel, how qabeel killed his brother)...

The thought of loosing one's child is just beyond what I can imagine, but in this day and age I think it is just business as usual..

7aki fadi: absolutely, it's a horrendous act that should receive a maximum prison sentence! Happy new year to you too :)

Mariam: you do have a point, but what's the solution? they can't execute babies' thieves and they can't cut off their hands, so should the authorities let them roam freely in the streets? I say lock them up for at least 20 years, that should teach the others not to even think about it. and LOL at the joke!!

sharkooseh: thanks ... that's exactly my point, the sentence seemed too lenient!

KJ: Same to you buddy! :-)

A mother: It's really in God's hands what is going to happen to these babies, but I guess we all agree on our expectations that, unless the baby is really lucky, then it's a gloomy future that is awaiting him/her. And yes, the problem is deep rooted within our society: the fear of honor killings to start with, sexual ignorance and prohibiting abortion surgeries all lead desperate terrified mothers to think throwing their babies is the safest and easiest way.

Mohanned: thanks man and a happy new year to you! :)

Well, with regard to abortion I do believe it should be completely banned... Since when is it allowed for man/woman to play God.
Even if the baby resulted from out of wedlock relations, it should not be allowed.
About mothers throwing their babies away it has happened since the age of the pharoes, but to throw the baby with the intention of him dying either slowly in the cold or rapidly as in the case of the girl who threw her baby in the sewage that is something new.
They used to leave babies on the doorstep of a mosque or a hospital, so what happened?
Even with unplanned pregnancy maternal love existed up until now.
I really wonder why did it seize to exist?!!!

A mother: I also think abortion should not be allowed ... but to these people, they're only left with two options really:

1- take the risk of delivering the baby on their own and then getting rid of it by dumping it in the sewage/under a bridge/inside a bathroom?

... OR ...

2- get a safe bortion?

I'm guessing you'd opt for the latter?

You raised another valid point, is that the main intention of doing that is to kill the baby, and not to just to get rid of it by leaving it on someone else's door steps. I have a personal experience with this. I'll post about it today.
