Childbirth Drama

Childbirth: Isn’t that such a beautiful word? Shouldn’t it only be synonymous with joy and happiness? I for one think it should not be associated with anything but words such as: happy, congratulations, mabrook … so on and so forth.

But lately I’ve been increasingly reading horrific childbirth related stories: people dumping their babies in trashcans, others abandoning them in hospitals bathrooms, others under bridges, and sick people stealing other people’s babies!

What is exactly happening at maternity hospitals these days?

How on earth can someone wait for a baby to fully develop inside them, only to conclude that 9 month journey by dumping their offspring in a bin? And how on earth can someone have a heart to steal a little helpless baby from his mother’s caring bosom? That I would never know!

Another thing that really pissed me off even more is where the hell is the kidnapper’s neighbors’ from all that havoc? I mean if you live next to a woman who hasn’t had a child all her life and she suddenly has a baby in her arms, then shouldn’t you suspect that there’s something slightly wrong with that picture?

I just read that they captured the baby’s kidnappers after they left the poor thing in an alley in Al Wihdat. The little girl’s parents named her Liqa2 (that translates to reunion) after she was kidnapped hoping to reunite with her again soon and, thank God, they did.

Now here’s what really got me all wound up: the time a baby’s kidnapper has to serve in jail ranges from 3 months, to 3 years! ARE YOU F’N KIDDING ME?!?!

In some parts of the world, like Dubai for example, you get a nonnegotiable 4 year prison sentence for a worthless joint, BUT HERE, you can abduct a helpless baby from his family and get away with 2 years? Perhaps 6 months for good behavior!

Is it just me who thinks this sentence is unduly lenient?

On a seperate note, I wish everyone a happy 2008. May it bring happiness and fortune to all of you.

Good to have you back writing, even if it is under such tragically topical auspices. That kidnapping broke my mommy-heart, and after all those other heart-wrenching stories, I am ready for some Chicken Soup for a Mother’s Soul.

Thank you Kinzi! It really has been a while!

    wallah ahlen o sahlen :)

it is REALLY sad. when my mom was here begining of Dec she told me about another infant abduction story, it was solved when the husband of the abductee reported his wife who had been pretending to be pregnant for 9 months and one day came back in the afternoon after she allegedly gave birth!

thank you wonders! now that’s a sad story there … I wonder how she managed to convince her husband for 9 whole months that she was pregnant!!

I would lose my mind if anybody abudcuted little 7aki. People who do it have something wrong up there.

    Happy new year Mr. Who-Sane :D .

barkee law inno we dont have honor crimes no one would feel the urge to dump a baby? i dont see things as surprising, it was coming for sure, this is what happens when u fix a mistake with… another mistake, and u keep doing it
people who abduct babies are theives, the least thing that a theif deserves is ten2ata3 eedo! i dont thing jail in jordan is that terrible, not like that in the US, and they both dont solve any issue! would leave a theif with a murderer? they will teach each other!
3ala zekker theif and murderer, khothlak hal nokteh:
wa7ad 7aramee w wa7ad nethel tel3oo ma3 ba3ad 3al bass, el 7aramee begool lal nethel a3almak el 7armaneh et3allemni el nathaleh? gallo ok, garrab el 7arami 3ala wa7deh wagfeh w latash el jozdan men el shanta w 7atto fee jeibto 3al sokkeit men gheir mat7ess, w gal lal nethel, heik el 7armaneh, shofet keef? gallo, a3almak el nathale? gallo ah, sar ysarrekh: 7arameeeeeeeeee!

I like ur way talking about this,,,
but what the hell with 3 months to 3 years?! for me, if someone kidnapped my child 30 years wont be enough.

    Happy new year my friend.

I am surprised with the sentence, 6 months for kidnapping or dumping a child? This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard.

The rule is simple: If you take a life away then your life is to be taken.

    Well..
You talked about kidnappers but what about the (so-called) parents who throw their kids away, some with the clear intention and wish for these babies to die.
    A problem isn’t it? A huge one I believe.
We got stuck… what should we do? abviously returned the babies to their undervingly called parents would be the worst thing to do. they lost their maternal rights the minutes they thought of throwing the baby away. But this is what happens. And do you think they get checked later on to see if they care for the baby or not? I don’t think so.. There is no social services that do home checks in Jordan, as I know.
So… why not giving the baby to couples who can’t have kids. Not adoption, foster parents, host parents whatchamacallit parents. I know “adoption” is a sensitive word. But I’m sure some couples who were not blessed with children of their own would treat the baby 100 times better than his biological “parents”.
So the real issue here is not why these babies get dumped.. It is about what’s gonna happened to them later on… which for the time being is nothing but being with unthankful parents with the label of “eben/bent haram”…
    So sad

    Welcome back homie!
I don’t know, but sometimes I feel that humans are evil by nature(Remember qabeel and habeel, how qabeel killed his brother)…

The thought of loosing one’s child is just beyond what I can imagine, but in this day and age I think it is just business as usual..

    Salamz..

7aki fadi: absolutely, it’s a horrendous act that should receive a maximum prison sentence! Happy new year to you too :)

Mariam: you do have a point, but what’s the solution? they can’t execute babies’ thieves and they can’t cut off their hands, so should the authorities let them roam freely in the streets? I say lock them up for at least 20 years, that should teach the others not to even think about it. and LOL at the joke!!

sharkooseh: thanks … that’s exactly my point, the sentence seemed too lenient!

KJ: Same to you buddy! :-)

A mother: It’s really in God’s hands what is going to happen to these babies, but I guess we all agree on our expectations that, unless the baby is really lucky, then it’s a gloomy future that is awaiting him/her. And yes, the problem is deep rooted within our society: the fear of honor killings to start with, sexual ignorance and prohibiting abortion surgeries all lead desperate terrified mothers to think throwing their babies is the safest and easiest way.

Mohanned: thanks man and a happy new year to you! :)

Well, with regard to abortion I do believe it should be completely banned… Since when is it allowed for man/woman to play God.
Even if the baby resulted from out of wedlock relations, it should not be allowed.
About mothers throwing their babies away it has happened since the age of the pharoes, but to throw the baby with the intention of him dying either slowly in the cold or rapidly as in the case of the girl who threw her baby in the sewage that is something new.
They used to leave babies on the doorstep of a mosque or a hospital, so what happened?
Even with unplanned pregnancy maternal love existed up until now.
I really wonder why did it seize to exist?!!!

A mother: I also think abortion should not be allowed … but to these people, they’re only left with two options really:

1- take the risk of delivering the baby on their own and then getting rid of it by dumping it in the sewage/under a bridge/inside a bathroom?

    … OR …

    2- get a safe bortion?

I’m guessing you’d opt for the latter?

You raised another valid point, is that the main intention of doing that is to kill the baby, and not to just to get rid of it by leaving it on someone else’s door steps. I have a personal experience with this. I’ll post about it today.
