Dr. Norman Finkelstein
I have so much respect for Dr. Norman Finkelstein … and that’s not primarily because he’s articulate, outspoken or that he makes perfect sense.
It’s that he makes sense, advocates peace, and highlights the atrocities of the Israelis in Palestine, when he himself is the son of two World War II concentration camps survivors.
In the recent video posted below, and in an attempt by one of the attendees to use the suffering the Nazis inflicted on the Jews to justify Israel’s brutality today, Finkelstein explains that this is:
… precisely and exactly because of the lessons my parents taught me and my two siblings: that I will not be silent when Israel commits its crimes against the Palestinians. And I consider nothing more despicable than to use their suffering and their martyrdom to try to justify the torture, the brutalization, the demolition of homes, that Israel daily commits against the Palestinians. So I refuse any longer to be intimidated or browbeaten by the tears. If you had any heart in you, you would be crying for the Palestinians!
Thank you Dr. Finkelstein for being the voice of reason and surely for having the balls to do what you’re doing when the world is turning a blind eye to the woes of an entire nation.
Here are more of Norman Finkelstein’s videos.

Good topic choice to jump start your blog (cool name too)
I saw him speak recently and he was as eloquent as usual. He gave dissenters the first opportunity for Q & A but only one student ventured forth. He too tried to tie actions against the Palestinians to Iran, the Holocaust, Hezbollah, etc.. Dr. Finkelstein was gracious though being hit with rapid fire questions (statements, claims, and presumptions for a large part of them) and Dr. Finkelstein got to the point where he would allow no further misrepresentations and set the student straight. He wanted to monopolize Dr. Finkelstein’s time but Dr. Finkelstein said he would let him ask more questions when others had had their chance. All the other dissenters (wearing “TRUTH” name badges) walked out right after his lecture. The student had no more questions when he concluded the rest of the Q & A.
He is a thoroughly engaging speaker. It is sad that it is always on a topic so tragic.

Thank you for your comment, Lance!
Indeed, Dr. Finkelstein is one eloquent speaker and is very good at engaging audiences, even allowing them for verbose Q&As.
He does a great job good at challenging stereotypes, especially those that justify violence of any form. I hope more like him would gather up the courage to go out and speak their minds like Finkelstein does.

I remember being impressed while watching a BBC Hardtalk interview of Finklestein. He’s written a book called The Holocaust Industry.

Sir,
I am shocked by your views and the way YOU USE THE HOLOCAUST while pretending YOU DO NOT.
If you really knew about Israel, the country I cherish and where I live, you wouldn’t see us as the monsters you describe…We have been under attack since the State was created. Long before the independence of Israel Jews were massacred in Hebron in 1929…You choose to ignore the atrocities committed by the “so called” Palestinians against our people and our children ( and against their own people by the way…)…all the bombing attacks against our civilians, the shelling of Sderot and the North…You overlook the fact that Arab terror hasn’t started in 67 with the “occupation”…You overlook the very important fact tha Gaza is no longer under “occupation”. We uprooted thousands of hard working people from the land which they had turned into a paradise…We did all that in order to acquire PEACE. but nothing is enough for the Palestinian leaders.
Your ideas are despicable and I do not even want to think where this hatred comes from. A week ago in London Israeli musicians were interrupted several times by Pro Palestinian hecklers and by a group called” Jews for the boycott of Israeli goods”…You seem to associate yourself with such ” low life” people.
Our country is thriving, we value and love life…We have an intensive cultural life and we will continue to do well in everything in spite of the likes of you.

So different people cry for the same experiences by their people yet fail to see the common ground and work together to stop it.

Crimes against Palestine in Finkelstein’s mind. I would beg to differ.. so easy to talk when it is not in your backyard.. The palestinines are run by a group of cold blooded terrorists not to mention financed and managed by Iran. I would love to see Finkelstein’s view if the Palestines would live on the outskirts of his neighboorhood.

A reply to Aline Silverman…
You say nothing is enough for the palestinian leaders after having gotten back Gaza that occupied since 1967. Since you are educated enough to use paragraphs you will also know that israel has placed an economic stranglehold on gaza in a typically sick israeli move, putting a siege on gaza to create the worst conditions ever. This is because they didn’t renew the ceasefire with Hamas because Hamas had completed 6 months and was eligible to go to the next step in negotiations. it was for this reason Hamas asked for some of the 10000 men, women and children israel holds in its prison. the next day israel kills 6-9 so-called militants on the border and starts its month long massacre.
While you moan like the typical zionist falsifier of truth that Finkelstein goes after and completely exposes. perhaps you should first look at what israeli historians and organisations and newspapers have recorded and is public record.
if israel was a humble peaceful country like you claim, you wouldn’t be making a point about hard-working people being uprooted, simply because israel would not have spat on the UN and the palestinians and transferred numbers from your population onto occupied land in violation of international law. you would not have killed 20,000 people in lebanon in 82′ (to name one of many many massacres), you would not have slaughtered 1400 including whole families in gaza in jan 2009, once again showing disregard for the life you apparently ” love and value..” nor the contempt israel shows for international law.
If you really understand history as far back as 1929, you will know the stories of Irgun, the haggenah and the stern gang, not to mention the golden age of zionist terrorism 36′-39.
Finkelstein writes, Benny Morris a respected israeli citizen states “in 1948, zionism meant ethnically cleansing the land.”
By the by, if boycott-calling protesters are “low-lifes” then the whole israeli state is scum since its placing boycotts of its own.
….shame on you.
