Stardust

I never thought a movie that features fallen human stars, wicked witches, hilarious ghosts, unicorns and flying pirates could be this good, especially if it’s not written by the great J.R.R. Tolkien or C.S. Lewis, but obviously I was very wrong.

Here’s a PG13 fantasy movie that you can take the whole family to watch, but it’s not just a fantasy flick mind you, it’s also an adventure, a comedy, a drama and a love story, all combined in one wonderful movie.

The casting is truly amazing and I have to admit that the reason I wanted to watch this movie is because Robert De Niro (Captain Shakespeare) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Lamia the witch) are both in it. De Niro’s character was so fitting for the role and certainly added more significance and humor to the movie.

The story (spoiler free, I guess) revolves around its protagonist, Tristan (Charlie Cox), a young villager of the town of The Wall, which likes its name is surrounded by a wall that keeps its citizens safe from the evil magic that takes place beyond the village’s wall.

Tristan goes on a mission to retrieve a fallen star to present it to the love of his life, but little did he know that he wasn’t the only one after it; the wicked witches were also hunting for it to restore their beauty and youth and so were the four sons of the late King of Stormhold who are in hot pursuit of the star in order for one of them to ascend to their late father’s throne.

Needless to say, the movie gets a 8.5/10 9/10.

A Sickening Comparison

Sicko

I watched SiCKO last night, after hearing news that the movie is available on the net. Although it’s not released yet, Michael Moore has no problem with people uploading/downloading the movie from the net and pointed out that copyright laws are “too restrictive”. Of course, the aim of the whole movie was to present the shocking facts to the viewers and I was indeed shocked to learn what kind of health system The US of A, the richest and strongest country in the world, is providing its citizens with.

Although the information presented in the movie were appalling, but the fact is that I’m not the best to review the movie, because a) I suck at reviewing movies. b) I was not exposed to the health system in the US, Canada, France or the UK. But unquestionably the movie did give us a quick preview of what kind of health insurance systems citizens are entitled to in these countries, and that’s why I couldn’t help but perform a quick comparison between the crappy excuse for a health system in the US and the health system of, not an average Arab country with a mid-sized economy such as Jordan (I don’t even want to come close to that comparison), but to, the wealthiest country in the Middle East: the UA of E.

I got busy living!

Dear to whom it may not concern …

Did one sentence ever had an everlasting effect on your life?

when I was 18 years old, I was an unpredictable, careless, irresponsible person … and nothing, absolutely nothing, would have a positive influence on my behaviour. No mom and dad lectures, no true stories of failures who couldn’t make it because they wasted their lives recklessly. I was simply unchangeable but I was happy who I was and I insisted on being that way.
